REPORT ON FILM FEST HELD BY THE DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH IN ASSOCIATION WITH MEDIA CLUB AT T.K MADHAVA MEMORIAL COLLEGE, NANGIARKULANGARA.
The department of English in association with media club held a film fest on 17 March 2022 at the college seminar hall. Special arrangements were put to effect to display the films in the seminar hall by the combined efforts of all the faculties Department of English. All students of the English Department were a part of this event and attended the same with great enthusiasm. Dr. P P Sharmila , the Principal of College inaugurated the film fest by screening the first film.
The films screened were either classics or popular which were hailed both by the audience and the critics for it’s storyline, plot as well as the pleasure and leisure they imparted in the audience. There were a total of three films scheduled for the same event. The film fest started with a silent prayer.
The first film was :BACK TO FUTURE PART 1 which got screened at 10:15am. The film was considered to be one of the best sci-fi films ever made as well as a landmark of American cinema , revolved around the plot of time traveling , which highlighted the beneficial prospective of science and technology in the present and in the coming generations. The film’s success resulted in the Back to the Future franchise comprising of film sequels, animated television shows, comics, and video games. Students found the film greatly interesting and intriguing.
The second film was: AN OCCURENCE AT OWL CREEK BRIDGE which got screened at 12:30pm. The film was an adaptation of the short story ”An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge ”by the American writer and Civil war veteran Ambrose Bierce which was described as “one of the most famous and frequently anthologized stories in American literature.” The film was a psychological thriller that takes many emotional turns and ended with an unsettling macabre twist. The film was of great current importance when the brutality of war got its worst side in Ukraine.
The third film was: THE ZOYA FACTOR which got screened at 2pm.The film is a light adaptation of Anuja chauhan’s 2008 novel of the same name. It was an Indian romantic comedy film that highlighted the hypothetical life of Indian Cricketers during 2011 Cricket World Cup, where many believe in superstitions like the lucky charm effect of someone or something to perform the best on the crease, than focusing on one’s own potential or abilities and settling one’s own flaws or drawbacks. The film brought home the idea that determination and hard work was the key to success.
All the three films attributed to the critical appreciation and aesthetic pleasure in the students .The event halted with a quick review and critical analysis by the students.
