Reading week celebrations 2022 by Department of Mathematics

Reading plays a significant role in the development of country's socio-economic progress. Progress of a person, community and country depends on its rich knowledge base. Rich knowledge base depends on reading. 'Read and Grow' is the slogan of the P.N. Foundation.Honouring the father of the Library Movement, the late 
P.N. Panicker, Mathematics Department of T K Madhava Memorial College, Nangiarkulangara celebrated Reading Day on 23 June 2022. As rightly said by Vera Nazarian, Whenever you read a good book, somewhere in the world a door opens to allow in more light, thus the students got an opportunity to participate in various activities to inculcate the habit of reading.The students thoroughly enjoyed this stress free day as it ignited the minds of the young learners. Since, the students of today’s age lack the passion for reading, this initiative taken by the Mathematics Department  seems to be instrumental in bringing a positive change. It was indeed an enriching and fun-filled day for the students, which ended with great satisfaction and success.

The inaugural ceremony started at 10:45 am on 23 th June   2022 and lasted till 01:00 pm. Anjali( S2 maths) took over the control of the program. The program began with a prayer by department choir. Mrs.Sinumol S ( Asst. Prof. Of Mathematics) delivered welcome speech at the meeting which was chaired by Mrs .Renjini , Head of Mathematics Department .Dr. Rajeev S R ( HOD , Economics Department) officially inaugurated the meeting at 11.15 am.The meeting ended with the Vote of Thanks released by Kumari. Adheena Vijay, I st year BSC Mathematics student.

The content of the competition was each teacher's reading experience and a trip to the books they already read.They  shared their experiences.

Dr. Rajeev S R ( HOD,Economics Dept.) became vocal about the book ,he currently reads.
Prof. Sreemon P (Former HOD, shared his priceless informations.Athira M Raj (Asst. Prof. ,Dept of English) shared her childhood memories about the way, she came to the paradise of reading.        
Her success is the way she conveyed the goodness of reading  to the listeners.

Prof.Abhilash Y (Asst. Prof.on contract, Dept of Malayalam) told his real life stories of reading.

Second session was poster making contest . The topic given for the participants was" Read… So you never feel alone" .They displayed their artistic skills through an array of posters.It was a great opportunity to watch these young minds creating and displaying their ideas on paper. The students thoroughly enjoyed the activity. One could see and feel the enthusiasm that the students had in their presentation. This activity kept the student engaged and it was organized to explore and encourage creativity in students and offer them a platform to showcase their skills. It inspired them to think and work creatively in order to promote artistic excellence.Time limit for the poster entries were upto 3:20 pm and the participants handed over their beautiful works within the given time to the coordinators.
All the posters made by participants were awesome.
The best posters were selected under the supervision of selected teachers.

Then we conducted Reading Competition .The content of the competition was taken from അദ്ധ്യാത്മ രാമായണം.

This was the best portion to check the fluency of participants in reading malayalam.The portion was given to the participants at the moment of competition.The competition was fierce for the participants.Reading competition started at 2.15 pm . The best readers were selected on the basis of fluency, correctness and time boundedness. We are happy that most of them read the portion clearly in limited time.

guided the participants.

And the last program was word puzzle .It was won by a  group of three students from IIDC BSc Zoology named Karthika S Kumar, Akshara M and Fathima A.

The program ended with the closing ceremony.
