Speech Competition and Awareness Programme

In connection with the International Antidrug Abuse Day, Vimukthi Club in association with Department of English organised an English speech competition and an awareness program on 23 June 2022 at college seminar hall.
The topic ‘Drug Abuse’ was given to the students one week prior to the competition. Students from Department of English (Ms. Nandhana S, Ms. Shreya Sasikumar, Ms. Kashikripa S) and Department of Zoology (Ms. Akshara M) participated in the contest. Mrs.Renjini, HOD, Department of Mathematics judged the competition. Ms.Shreya Sasikumar and Ms.Kashikripa S from English Dept. Bagged the first and second prize consecutively.
An awareness session on ‘Substance Abuse ' was handled by Mrs.Remya VR, co-ordinator of Vimukthi Club. Students and teachers from various departments attended the programme.
Read Aloud & Read In
16 , 20 & 21June 2022
In connection with the National Reading Day celebration, Department of English in association with Reading Club organised a reading session Read Aloud on 16 June 2022. First year students of English and Economics department participated in the session. Mrs. Remya V R, convenor of Reading Club monitored the session.
Read In, a book review session was conducted on 20 & 21 June 2022.
The first session began with an introduction to the Reading week celebration by Mrs. Athira M Raj, Assistant Professor, Dept. Of English.Mrs. Remya V R ,convenor of Reading Club delivered a speech on the importance of reading. Ms. Shreya Sasikumar shared her reading experience of the novella ,The Old Man and the Sea by Earnest Hemingway. Ms.Avani P shared her views on the short story ‘Haritha mohanam’ by Susmesh Chandroth.
The second session was held on 21 June. Ms. Praveena S Kumar exchanged her views on reading the book Dying to be Me by Anita Morjani. Ms. Kashikripa S shared her reading experience of the book Kalki (part2) by Kevin Misal. The session was monitored by Mrs. Sangeetha Hariharan and Mrs. Remya V R from the Department of English.
Both the sessions were so effective. Students from the Department of English , Chemistry and Physics attended the review sessions. This initiative was well appreciated by other departments also. So as to improve the reading skills and habit the Department and Reading Club have decided to continue this programme on weekly basis.
Book Donation by the Department of English
21 June 2022
In connection with National Reading Day celebration the Department of English, T K Madhava Memorial College Nangiarkulangara visited Government U P School Nangiarkulngara on 21 June 2022 and donated 47 English story books to promote and encourage reading among students as well as to improve their language skills.
Mrs. Soumya V S, Head of the Department of English along with Dr Parvathy U, Mrs Sangeetha Hariharan, Mrs Remya V R, Mrs Sarsha T S, Mrs Athira M Raj and four student representatives including Shreya Sasikumar, Nandana Biju, Praveena S Kumar and Kashi Kripa S visited the school. The books were handed over to the Headmistress in Charge by Mrs. Soumya V S in the school assembly and addressed the students and motivated them to read it. It has been decided to visit the school on monthly basis by a Faculty member along with two students from the Department of English to listen the reading experience and book review of the students of the school.
