Pi approximation Day 2022

Pi approximation Day 2022
Dept of Mathematics
       on
 22/07/2022*

Pi Approximation Day is celebrated every year on 22 July to glorify the mathematical constant pi (π), which is denoted by the Greek letter pi and approximates to 3.14. This day is also committed to honouring and appreciating the efforts of various scientists, and mathematicians to research finding the value of pi.
In connection with Pi Approximation day, Mathematics Department of T K Madhava Memorial College, Nangiarkulangara conducted *"Memorize Pi " Competition* .
The program started at 12.00 pm with a prayer by Department choir.Mrs. Sinumol S ( Asst. Prof. Of Mathematics) ; cordinator of this program delivered the welcome Speech which was chaired by Mrs. Renjini , Head of Mathematics Department.Dr. P.P Sharmila; Principal of T K Madhava Memorial College inagurated this program.

As David Chudnovsky said ;
“Exploring pi is like exploring the universe.”

One of the most notable features of pi is that it is infinite. It continues indefinitely without any pattern or repetition, making it both a transcendental and irrational number. It was a challenge put forward by department of Mathematics named *"Memorize Pi"* for the students to memorize as many digits of the number after the decimal point without any error in 2 minutes of time.

10 students from different departments of our college participated in this competition.
The participants are listed as follows:
  • Vishnupriya K
                - S4; Bsc Physics
  • Athulya A
                - S4; Bsc Physics
  • Arya Suraj
                - S4; Bsc Physics
  • Saraswathy R
                 - S4; Bsc Physics
  • Amitha Suresh
                 - S4; Bsc Mathematics
  • Soumya R Krishnan
                  - S4; Bsc Mathematics
  • Vinu S Prasad
                  - S4; Bsc Mathematics
  • Nadirsha Basheer
                 - S4; Bsc Mathematics
  • Abhijith Babu
                 - S4; Bsc Mathematics
  • Arathy Babu
                 - S4; Bsc Chemistry
Arathy Babu from Chemistry Department bagged the First Prize 🏆.She memorized and wrote the 90 digits after the decimal point in correct order. Vishnupriya K from physics department bagged the second prize. She wrote correct 46 digits after the decimal point. Saraswathy R from Physics department bagged the Third prize and she wrote correct 42 digits after the decimal point.
Felicitation was done by Dr. Arun S Prasad ( HOD, Department of Physics and IQAC coordinator). The program ended with the vote of thanks released by Kumari. Bhagyasree. S ; Third year BSc Mathematics student.
